Ask Dea:

Advice for lazy students

Issue date: 3/7/06 Section: Features

Dear Dea,

I am lazy and I know it, but I don't want to be lazy anymore. I don't get things done and I feel so ineffective: probably because I am. What do you think I should do?
Sincerely,

Lazy 'n' Losing

Dear Lazy 'n' Losing,

I have had this issue also, and what has helped me is the knowledge that there are people out there who need our gifts and they will not be as prosperous as they could be without our help. We are also holding ourselves back from seeing the power that we possess that can affect the world. We are holding ourselves back from seeing the greater potential within ourselves.
I overcame this battle with laziness by deciding in my mind that I wasn't going to sit around and waste time anymore, especially since I end up feeling bad about it anyway. You get a lot done once you put your mind to it. After I decided in my mind to change, the next thing to do was act on my decision. I got up and did something! It's okay to mentally apprehend a change, but it's not going to be effective unless you apply it to your life. So decide not to be lazy in your mind and act on it!

Sincerely,
Dea
