West Chester's new residence hall project received two new updates, including proposed names for the former Dormitory 'A' and Dormitory 'B' and the planning for implementation of geothermal energy systems. It has been decided by University officials that Dormitory 'A' that will be constructed on Hollinger Field will become Allegheny Hall.
West Chester University has secured its efforts in implementing the National Survey of Student Engagement as of Jan. 21 in order to evaluate students' collegiate experiences. According to the NSSE official web site, the survey was formulated in 2001 and has accrued a participation of nearly 800 universities across the country to date.
Despite the largest single day of presidential primaries in this nation's history on Feb. 5, the electoral picture is still mired with uncertainty. Pennsylvania's primary will be instrumental in deciding the democratic nominee, and could potentially clarify on the Republican side as well.
With the planning stages of the future student rec center still being held up in the West Chester Borough Council, first and second year students who were charged a Rec Center fee as part of the general costs of their tuition last semester will receive a refund on their accounts will credited.
Governor Rendell proposed a funding increase for the 14 PASSHE schools last Tuesday in an effort to keep tuition costs down as prices are expected to rise in the 2008-2009 school year. Each year the state appropriation covers roughly one-third of the operating cost of each of the 14 universities, with student tuition covering the remaining two-thirds of operating costs.
The Grand Opening of West Chester University's new Starbucks is scheduled for 8 a.m. on Monday, February 11. The Starbucks is located on north campus in the Francis Harvey Green Library. Students will be able to enjoy a variety of Starbucks products such as Frappuccino blended beverages, hot or cold espresso-based beverages, bottled waters, juices, double shots of espresso and organic teas.
