Campus security questioned after VA Tech Massacre

After the horrific massacre on Virginia Tech's campus on Monday, April 16, questions and concerns have become inevitable on college campuses across the country. Not only for students who play the 'what-if' game, relating themselves to the fear those students felt, but it is truly "a university administrator's nightmare," said Stephen Joel Trachtenberg in an editorial which appeared in the Washington Post on April 19.

Rise in West Chester Tuition yields concern for future fiscal collections

College students and parents alike have been concerned about tuition increases. There has been other discussion surrounding if this correlates to the faculty and the contract that expires June 30, 2007. According to apscufwcu.com, from 2002 to 2006, the average faculty salary, adjusted for inflation, decreased by nearly eight percent.

WCU first year student killed in car accident in NJ

West Chester University first-year, student Jon Mustafa, 18, died onEaster Sunday, April 8, 2007. He suffered head and neck injuries as a result of a car accident on Route 18 in East Brunswick, New Jersey. Mustafa, the driver of the vehicle, carried his longtime girlfriend Lesley Carness,16, as a passenger in the car.

LGBTQA holds Day of Silence

In a day of idle chatter and students running around in Banana suits, another group of West Chester University students decided to give up their voices for a day in order to raise awareness. On April 18, a small group of University students participated in the annual Day of Silence to protest the silence caused by harassment, prejudice and discrimination against gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered individuals.

Global warming panel proposes solutions

West Chester University was one of the 182 campuses nationwide to air the live broadcast entitled "Chill Out: Campus Solutions to Global Warming," Wednesday ,April 18 in Sykes Student Union. WCU Faculty prepare to strike

A vote is set next to approve a strike authorization in the event that negotiations breakdown in the long-standing contract dispute between the APSCUF faculty union and the PASSHE board of governors. Should the APSCUF vote to authorize a strike, then by June 30, thousands of Pennsylvania state school system students could find themselves sitting at home rather than taking summer courses or preparing for the fall 2007 semester.
