A student roundtable discussion of racism at West Chester University was held by the Office of Social Equity last Wednesday in an effort to understand the current climate on campus and evaluate possible strategies for positive change in the future. Richeleen Dashfield, the director of social equity, said that the event was well attended.
From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. last Saturday, the Chester County Peace Movement, CCPM, held a silent meditation at the corners of High and Market Streets, to remember victims of war on this second anniversary of the War in Iraq. More than 36 concerned citizens, ranging from toddlers to seniors, attended the vigil, a majority silently reflecting under the "Old Glory" war memorial for the full two hours.
Construction has begun again on North Campus. The Lawrence Dining Center is currently undergoing a 12,000 square foot, twostory expansion. The new addition is going to offer students a new massive, twostory, multi-activity space that will provide a variety of recreational, dining and lounge experiences.
West Chester University has been chosen to be the site of an ongoing program that seeks to provide students with free daily access to several local and national newspapers. USA Today manages the Collegiate Readership Program, which has gained notable success since its introduction in 1997 on the Penn State University Campus, according to the USA Today Web site.
Last Tuesday night professor and author David T.Z. Mindich spoke at Philips Autograph Library about his book "Tuned Out: Why Americans Under 40 Don?t Follow the News." Mindich is the chair of the journalism and mass communication department at Saint Michael ?s College in Vermont and is a former assignment editor at CNN.
