Drinking in residence halls increases as offcampus penalties become harsher

West Chester University is commonly referred to as a dry campus. However, many students continue to violate the university's code of con-duct, specifically, through the consumption of alcohol. West Chester has zero tolerance for drinking in the residence halls, whether the student is over or less than 21 years of age.

At college campuses across the country, students are speaking out about reproductive rights with the Back Up Your Birth Control Day Campaign, a response to the FDA delay last month to make the morning-after pill available over the counter. Currently, emergency contraception is only available by appointment through campus health centers, which limits access to students at campuses without this service.

Dr. Donald Barr, Dean of the School of Health Sciences, summed it up best when he said, "there you have it, some of our best and brightest." A total of 64 West Chester students were recognized as 2003-2004 recipients of the Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges.

Novas: Breaking down Latino stereotypes

Latinos in the United States have been stereotyped and persecuted by a nation that does not recognize their contributions, according to Cuban American author Himilce Novas. Speaking in Philips Autograph Library on Monday, March 22, Novas began by quoting Spaniard George Santayana's philosophy that, "Those who do not learn from the past are doomed to repeat it," to explain her passion in relating the struggles and triumphs of Latinos through her literature.

FAA criticized for reckless pilots, security

Ninety minutes into John V. Salamone's bizarre, four-hour flight above the Philadelphia region on Jan. 15, air traffic supervisor David Urban let his frustration show. "I'm sorry if my temper is short," Urban, who works at Philadelphia International Airport, told a colleague in New York, explaining that he had been put on hold for "10 minutes" while seeking help from the New Jersey State Police in identifying Salamone's plane.

A German woman's joy at the recovery of her missing handbag quickly turned to sorrow after she sped drunk to the police station to fetch it and had her driver's license confiscated, authorities said Thursday. Disney parks to raise admission

Eagles return for summer camp

After many years gone, the Philadelphia Eagles are finally returning to West Chester University. Since the early 1990's, the Eagles have held their training camp at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, PA. The president of team sponsor Reebok, George Patterson, was involved in a physical altercation with Fred Fitzimmons, the President of Lehigh University, leading to the termination of their agreement to share the school's athletic facilities.

Playboy Mag targets women of WCU to pose

West Chester University has been contacted by Playboy magazine to fill the pages of an upcoming issue with the beautiful women on campus. The magazine is not interested in coeds though. Rather they are looking for attractive faculty members willing to pose.
